Choosing The Right Pipe Hanger For The Right Job

Pipes are like spiders; they go up walls, across floors and ceilings, and can hang just about anywhere. Yet, to get pipes to go where you want and need them to, you need accessories that can hold the pipes in place. That is where pipe hangers come in handy. These accessories clamp around the pipes, hold them in place, and allow you to install pipes everywhere. Do you know which ones to choose for which pipes and installation jobs? You might not, even though a plumber would. Still, if you want to purchase pipe hangers, it helps to know a few things about them, and know how to choose the right pipe hanger for the right job.

Metal C-Clamp Pipe Hangers

These pipe hangers are mostly metal. Their clamp portion forms a "C", which is why they are called what they are called. Metal pipe hangers are perfect for any pipes that channel exceptionally hot liquids because the heat thrown off by the hot liquids will not melt or affect the pipe hangers in any way, shape, or form. If you have a lot of hot liquid pipes in your factory, you may also want to consider the thermoplastic pipe hangers for their resistance to heat and their long life.

Thermoplastic Pipe Hangers

Thermoplastic pipe hangers are also good at holding onto and hanging hot pipes. The difference here is that plastic hangers often tend to run a lot cheaper than their metal counterparts by comparison. The plastic ones will also never rust or corrode, which may be a problem for the metal pipe hangers when used in conjunction with hot pipes that encounter frequent condensation.

Insulated Pipe Hangers

Insulated pipe hangers are usually part plastic or metal, and part rubber. The point is to get secure hold on the pipe without slipping from condensation or moisture, and insulate that part of the pipe at the same time. These are especially good for cold liquid pipes that run alongside hot liquid pipes or cold liquid pipes in a very hot area of the factory. They are also very nice when you want to insulate a whole run of pipe but you do not want to stop and cut off pipe insulation material every time you run into a pipe hanger. The pipe hanger itself, in these instances, is already insulated, so nothing else needs to be done except to insulate the length of pipe on either side of the hangers.
